While some of Noah's fellow fifth grader's seem to be taking a liking into the boyfriend/girlfriend thing and trying to look cool. Noah and his buddies are building a human skeleton out of recycled paper, talking about Marco Polo's view of Asia, and still enjoying being kids.
And I love it.
Today after school, Noah was fretting over having to take ANOTHER shower tonight after soccer. I mention, "Getting older stinks!"
He says to Caleb, "When you get close to puberty, it stinks! Get it? Smelly armpits and privates...it LITERALLY stinks."
Oh my.

Kid Talk
Oh my goodness. Noah is growing up WAY too fast. This morning he had me cracking up....on the inside.
On our commute to school this morning, I was messing with the passenger side rear-view mirror. It's an electric one that I can control from my door.
Caleb asks, "Wow! How are you moving that?!?"
Noah says, "Mom's controlling it. It's the latest technology. In fact, I think it is late technology. It started around 1960....no, 1993."
Where does he come up with this stuff? :-)
Later in the drive, they were discussing their morning. Noah woke up early to get Jonah out of his crib. Caleb got to sleep in an extra 10 minutes or so. Of course, this upsets Caleb as he doesn't want to miss anything!
Noah's response, "Wait until your 9 or 10. You'll understand then. All I want is a little extra sleep and some peace and quiet in the morning. When I was 8 I wanted to get up early still."
What a crack up!

While I get over the depression from my broken and non-repairable iPhone (even though it is still under warranty), I have been lacking in blog posts. It's because of the pictures that I now have no idea how to upload. On a side note, I despise Apple stores. The workers are always so rude. I feel like they talk down to me because I don't speak computer lingo. In general, the workers there remind of road bicyclists, who I feel as a whole tend to be rude and arrogant. And now I am done stereotyping.
At least I still have my kiddos to make me smile. So I leave you with Noah's latest dreams for what to be when he grows up....
The kid has big dreams. Varied dreams too. Everything from fireman, to architect, to charity worker, to math man (whatever that is). I never discourage what he suggests nor try to plant my own ideas into his head. One thing that has been on his list and has been growing lately is to be in the military. That is, until tonight. During our local news they were doing some coverage on some new "real life" training going on here at one of the local bases. After seeing some gunfire and a bit of fake blood he says, "I think I shouldn't be in the Army. I mean, they look good on Wheel of Fortune, but that fighting....it's just not for me."

While driving in the car yesterday, here is the conversation I hear from the back seat.
Noah, "I don't even know how to smoke. I mean, it's just weird."
(He had a capri sun straw and I'm assuming he was pretending it was a cigarette.)
Caleb, "I do. You put the smoker in your mouth and bite it, then put fire on it. Then you just breathe."
Noah, "Yeah."
Caleb, "Then in ten years you die."

Welcome to Summer!
It's official! We now have a fourth grader AND a kindergartner. So crazy!
My fourth grader...class of 2021!
Summer officially began on Thursday at 12:30 and we have been going, going, going ever since. It started like this.....
Thanks for the idea Pinterest!
Thursday afternoon we headed to Waikiki to meet with some old friends from STL who happened to be vacationing here. So fun to catch up on everyone's happenings since we were last together. My students are now as old as I was when I was teaching them! Funny how I still feel the same age.
Friday we eased into summer by sleeping in and chilling around the house. The boys had their first basketball games on Friday night. Caleb plays 3 on 3 with other four and five year olds. He is SO TALL! It's half court and you must outlet to your coach after each play. The first rebound Caleb got he dribbled all the way down to the other end of the court! Forget this half court stuff. He started to get the hang of it after about a quarter and it should be fun to watch him grow each week. Noah, much like soccer, is playing with people who have never heard of basketball. :) He scored about 10 baskets for his team. I've got to find him some better competition. This is crazy!
Saturday morning called for four hours of soccer and then a BBQ at our neighbors house complete with a slip and slide and water gun fight.
Movie night was moved to Saturday night. This week we watched Hop.
Sunday morning we all slept...or at least stayed in bed until 9:00! We gathered ourselves and headed to Hanauma Bay for some snorkeling. Randomly, we ran into our friends from STL again!
Sunday afternoon/evening, we were LAZY! A movie for Mom and Dad and some Wii for the boys. We also discovered ooVoo where we can video conference with multiple people! Love it!
Memorial Day was again fairly lazy....cleaning around the house, some homework for Mom, reading for all the boys, skyping with AZ friends, and a trip to the park to play basketball and tennis. The sun was pretty intense and I forgot the sunscreen so Jonah, Caleb, and I headed back to the car early.
We had every intention to attend the lantern floating ceremony that evening but we just couldn't get our acts together. We need more long weekends to spend more time with Dad! in discussing plans for today, Noah was stating all that he would do with Dad. When I told him Dad was already at work, he was shocked! "Dad has to work in the summer?!?"
Blasphemy!
And one more picture just because we miss him so much. My nephew, T, in Arizona finally cut his hair short! Uncle Eric has been teasing that boy about shaving his head for a long time. Looking good, buddy!

Yesterday while driving home from basketball practice Caleb Shouts, "MOM! I see two big holes in that mountain. THAT must be where Captain Cave-Man lives. Get it? CAVE. MAN. He lives in that cave."
Of course he does, buddy.
Oh, and this week he also told me that to get on Dancing with the Stars, I have to win Jeopardy first. Great. There goes my chance at being on DWTS.

Kid Talk
It has been a while since I've done one of these posts, but let me assure you, my children are coming up with crazy, clever, ideas and sayings on a daily basis. It's about time for me to share a few of Caleb's thoughts about living in Hawaii.
This morning on our way to take Noah to school the crossing guard was missing, just as he was yesterday. I said, I wonder where the crossing guard is? Maybe he is on vacation?"
Caleb, "Yeah, just like we are on vacation!"
Me, "We aren't on vacation buddy."
Caleb, "Then how come we go to the beach all the time?"
Spoken like a true midwestern and desert raised child.
Yesterday Caleb said something silly and I told him, "Get out of town!"
He said, "We are out of town."
Me, "No we are not. We are in Honolulu."
Caleb, "But actually, we are out of the states."
Me, "No honey, Hawaii is a state."
Caleb, "Oh, I forgot."

Boys, Oh Boys
"MOM! Get in here quick! Grab the camera! Wil and Kate and Kristen have to see this!" He goes on to explain about the new SpongeBob episode, which unfortunately I missed, and about how funny Dad thinks this is. Caleb clearly thinks this is the funniest thing he has ever seen as well. Got to love boys!
(Sorry for the bathroom shot. I tried to keep it clean.)
So, for all the cousins......

Last week, Noah was sitting at the table, playing on the computer, and the tv was on in the family room. Some preview for a show came on and he says, " Wow, she is sexy."
"Um, EXCUSE ME?!"
"Yeah her."
"Perhaps we should just say she is pretty," I say.
"Yeah, that's what I said," responds Noah.
I just about fell out of my chair.

The blog posts are backing up and I am totally okay with that. Not stressing. I'm going to take the easy way out tonight and go for a short, quick, funny post. Tonight after dinner, the boys grabbed some mints on their way out of the restaurant and we headed to the Apple store. On the way home Noah says, "Caleb you want another mint?"
Caleb says, " NO! I spit mine out."
Noah says, "I ate the whole thing. I had to man up and eat it all."
Haha! What a funny kid!

Noah has been out of control with reading lately. He is obsessed, and I like it. He literally reads two chapter books per week here at home, plus everything else he can get his hands on. Tonight he was telling me about a certain section of his school library where he needs my permission to check out books, and he continued with how he instantly begins reading after any classwork is complete.
I think his exact words were, "I'm getting really aggressive with reading. I just do it all the time."
Reading it doesn't do it justice......in his sweet little voice with a lisp it was too funny!!!

Me, "Noah, get off the train table. You're going to break it."
Noah, "Then what?"
Me,"You'll owe me $200."
Noah, "To buy a new one?"
Me, "Yes."
Noah, "Can I write a check?"

Noah, "How are babies borned?"
Me, "From their mommies."
Noah, "No. Uh, I mean, um. What kind of clothes do they wear?"
Me, "Babies are born naked."
Noah, "Unh-uh"
Me, "Uh-huh."
Caleb, "I was borned with a diaper."
Noah, "I think I had shorts and a t-shirt."
Me, "We were all born naked."
Caleb, "Mom had a binky."
Noah, "Do they give you free clothes?"
Me, "In the hospital babies usually have on a diaper, a shirt, and a hat."
Noah, "That's nice. Naked is embarrassed."
Caleb, "Naked butt, naked butt."
Good talk.

Kid Talk
Last night I was in my bathroom, sitting on the toilet, doing nothing. This may sound weird to many. But for anyone who has, or has had, a clingy three year old, this is an important moment in time in our daily routine. A special quiet time, to just sit....by yourself. And like many of these times, it didn't last long. Caleb barges in, sorta teary and says, "Mom! I couldn't find you! I need help."
I said, "I'm, going potty, bud. Go find Daddy and ask him."
Devastated, he responds, "I can't. Dad makes me itchy."

Breakfast in Bed
My Mother's day was perfect. It started with breakfast-in-bed. Two heart-shaped pancakes topped with whipped cream and strawberries. Followed by sausage, and biscuits and gravy. I sent back the plate from round #1 with some food remaining and Noah called me out. After telling him that I had more food to eat and was getting full, he responded, "Haha, you're like the challenger."
I asked, "You mean Man vs. Food?"
Noah, "Yeah, Mom vs. food." :)
Church was 100% devoted to moms, with the homily given by three different moms in three different stages...an empty-nester, a mother of four all in school, and a pregnant first-time mom. So good!
I received a new purse from the boys....exactly what I wanted! Came home, washed the car, inside and out...also what I wanted! And finally Los Suns swept The Spurs!!!! Perfect. Throw in a lost tooth for Noah and I pretty much had a wonderful day! Yay for moms.

Kid Talk
Living away from family, we do a LOT of practicing of who is who in family relations. Sort of like, when Eric and I first started dating and were heading to family functions together. I'm not afraid to admit that we BOTH have said, "I don't know how we're related to him/her." :)
Tonight, Caleb broke out with, "You don't have parents, Mom!"
Which of course led to several minutes of questioning Caleb, all preceded with, "Noah don't tell him...."

Kid Talk
I'm not sure if I am ready for this kind of talk quite yet....but Noah is so sweet none the less.
This is how you know your kid is watching too much news with you....
This morning while watching the Today show with me, Noah says, "I wanna be in the war. I'm going to be in the Army."
Immediately feeling my motherly instincts kicking in....feeling the urge to grab my sweet little boy and snuggle with him on the couch showering him with kisses and never letting go. Hoping that this will prevent him from ever growing up. I say, "Really?!? That'd be great."
He asks, "Do you have to be married?" (Obviously in response to the many troops saying hello to their spouses and children back home)
Me, "No. You just have to wait until you are 18 years old."
Noah, "I should wait till I'm like, 20. Because I might die."
"Let's just worry about being 6. Do you have your homework packed?"
I'm currently working on a solution to keep my sweet boys young and innocent forever! Any suggestions?

Can I Clone This Kid?
Tuesday nights are mine and Noah's favorite night. We LOVE to watch The Biggest Loser. Noah cracks me up because he knows the name of each contestant and remembers everything from earlier in the season. While watching The Biggest Loser tonight, Susie Orman was a special guest. They were talking about finances and played a game where the contestants were able to win money, $1000 for each question they answered correct. Later in the show, something happy or good happened and Noah asked, "Does she get $1000?"
I replied, "No babe, it's not about the money."
To which Noah responded, "Oh yeah, they want to get skinny."
Me, "Well it's about getting healthy."
Noah, "Yeah, get skinny."
Me, "Well since these people were so large, healthy for them is skinnier, yes. There is such a thing as too skinny that is not healthy."
Noah, "So they wanna be like you mom, you're perfect."
I love this kid!
