Surfing in Waikiki

The Ohlers, Noah, and Caleb all took a hand at surfing last week in Waikiki.  We went super early Monday morning and everyone did great!  I only have a couple pics of my boys, but rest assured Kate and Wil were pros, and I would even venture to say that Aunt T got up a few times! :)

Then we spent the afternoon enjoying a raft given to us by some visitors leaving the island.  Miss Kate ended up cutting her toe open on the reef adventuring with this raft.  Ouch!

Loads of Pics, part 3

Friday morning meant surfing lessons and clearly we all look over enthused!

A few land lessons to get everyone started before they head out to the water.

Daniel was ready for his turn!
T was a natural...up on the very first try!

 And off they go...

It was difficult to take decent pictures because everyone was pretty far off the shore and I was trying to keep an eye on wild baby Jo.  Plus it rained a bit and I could barely tell who was who!

That night we headed back to Waikiki for Friday night fireworks at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.  We've lived here for almost 18 months and it was the first time we were on the beach to see the fireworks!  We will be back soon!

Let's Go Surfing Now...

Everybody's learning how!

We had an AMAZING time surfing yesterday.  The staff at Big Wave Dave's in Waikiki was unreal.  They were so good with our young crowd and were overly attentive to our every need.  We started with a lesson/demonstration at their place on Koa street, then carried our boards down to the beach.  We hopped into the outrigger canoe and headed out to sea to catch some waves back in.  I was not ready for the wrath of the front of this ride.  Clearly he put me there for a reason, because if a child would have been there, they'd have gone overboard.  The bruise on my calf is HUGE!  I wouldn't say we were rowing professionals, but we had a blast!

Another quick review on the beach for surfing and then we got our boards in and started paddling out!

The instructors, Alika, Uncle Patrick, and Cody are rock stars....Uncle Patrick hooked one toe onto Caleb's board and another onto Aidan's, and paddled those boys out like it was no thing.

We got out their, spun our boards around, and before I realized it, they shoved Caleb into a wave and he was up and riding his way in, all the way to the beach!  Which by the way is over 200 yards...

Soon there after we were all catching waves, often the same one, and enjoying our newly acquired activity.  Kristen's first run ended in a sweet wipeout....but from then on out, she was golden!  Minus the few people she mowed over during some runs. ;)

Aidan was so excited to get out there, and was totally satisfied after the first run.  :)
Luckily, the instructors were amazing and were pulling him back out there, time and time again.
I love this picture below because Aidan is totally focused on Alika (left) and he was yelling to Aidan, "UP!, UP!"

Aidan completely mastered the knee surfing technique!
KJ, Caleb, and Noah about to catch the same wave!
 And they're up!
Words cannot express my obsession with the numerous pictures I have like this...
 Triplet wave, again!
And, Mom/Chutka even got in on some of that action.  Okay, let's not kid ourselves.  It was every man for themself.  I was LOVING it!  My arms were BURNING paddling out there, but I was not stopping.  Seriously, it was so fun.  Kristen and I were passing all the other members of our group to hurry and get back out there after each run.

Caleb has complete and total focus here....on Noah. :)
After a little rest on the beach, another instructor towed Aidan back out for some more action!

And some more pictures....because they are just so freaking cute!  And amazing!

AHHHHH! SO MUCH FUN!
Big Wave Dave's is the real deal and totally worth every penny.
