Hurricane Review

Well, both Iselle and Julio were a bust for Oahu….which is awesome.  We are very thankful that nothing major came of either storm for us.  We know many people on the Big Island were affected (and many are still without power) and hope that they will recover as quickly as they can.
On Friday, we had one quick burst of rain and wind, followed by mostly blue skies and a few more wind gusts.

We were getting a bit stir crazy sitting around the house, so we headed out to Sandys to watch the surf.

Lots of big wipeouts and a few near misses!

You can't tell by watching this video, but there was a young boy of about 10 or 11 years….His parents were seated next to us and allowed him to get in the water to ride some waves.  I would be lying if I didn't say, I was shocked!  But you never know, perhaps he lives here, surfs this beach regularly.  Maybe these waves are small for him.  He could be the youth world champion body boarded.  Who knows, right?  Not long after he was in, the boy was swept way down the coastline by the strong current.  Mom and Dad were racing down the beach trying to wave him back to the area he entered.  After a few attempts by dad to enter the water, a man noticed what was happening and went in after the boy.  He hopped on his board with him and together they paddled their way away from the rocky shoreline and up onto the beach.  I can't imagine what these parents were thinking but my heart was beating out of my chest!  Thankfully, it all ended well. :)

It's COLD in the Southwest Too

We are breaking records all over the place! It is down right cold here. Yesterdays record low, High Temp was 44 degrees. 44, really? That is too cold for a daytime high in the desert. This morning it was 27 degrees in Scottsdale. Our cacti are freezing. Just to prove it, here is a photo from the car this morning Eric took on his way home from the gym at 6:30 a.m.

The good news is, the end is in sight! Saturday's high is 67 and the temps only go up from there!

Monsoon Season

The end of the summer brings on some crazy weather here in the desert. Well....sometimes it does. Typically it is HOT and sunny, but occasionally we do get some serious rain. Last year, I can remember sitting in Uncle Sam's with the fam, getting ready to walk out to the cars, and the rain was coming in sideways. We opted to retake our table and order ice cream at that time. That was after we watched a few people wipe out in the parking lot.
A few weeks ago, it happened again. We had some major rain. It was crazy because only 3 miles south of our house there was absolutely NO rain, and sunny skies. I know, because I was working there at this time. As I drove home, getting closer and closer to our house, the damage got worse and worse. There was roof damage everywhere, trees down, trash bins all over the place, even an air-conditioning unit, that had blown off someones roof. The boys and Molly surely enjoyed the change of scenery.

Spoiled Rotten

Okay, so it has been raining off and on for three days. I am so over it! I know I will get no sympathy from my St. Louis readers but I need to vent! Change is good...in many situations, but take me back to the monotony of everyday blue skies and sunshine. Oh, and temps back into the 70s will help as well.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

So they had been predicting rain all week. It has been spotty, mostly sunny, until today. Today is downright gloomy! Check out theses pics.

Here is our neighborhood lake, which IS overflowing! You can no longer see the mountains either.

There will be no bike riding along the trail anytime soon. :(

And the rain continues today.....
