Busy Saturday

Saturday started with soccer for Noah. He scored 1 goal in the first half and logged a shut out as goalie in the second.
Next to Caleb's baseball game where he went 2 for 3 and played some great defense at the pitcher's position. (No pic)
Then to Caleb's soccer game where he scored a goal and had 2 assists.
Then to Noah's basketball game where he played a great game in a tough loss. 3 points and 10 rebounds!
Finally, to a karate birthday party for Caleb's friend....
Whew! Busy day. Not to mention the house full of people Caleb and I came home to! Ready for a relaxing Sunday.

Back on It

Sorry about the LONG delay in keeping up with us....unlike the Kardashians, who can afford to hire people to keep you up to date on their lives, I'm working on my own here. :-)
Here comes the onslaught of photos and tidbits to catch you up.  I was going to divide it into several posts, but I'm all about taking the easy way out....when it comes to blogging, anyway.
Starting with last Friday night (the 20th, not 27th....yes that far back!)...with our summer coming to a close we decided to make the most of the remainder of our time.  We headed out to dinner, just the five of us to Cattle Company Steakhouse in Pearl City, very uncharacteristic of our seldom eating red meat family.  And we indulged!  Bread, drinks, pupus, steak, POTATOES (garlic mashed, fries, loaded baked, sweet, you name it), dessert.  It was on.

Saturday morning, the boys had a kool-aid stand in our neighborhood, as our community was having several garage sales.  Sales were slow at first and Eric and I had to approach a few people and offer them money to buy from the stand. Haha.
A little later that morning, we decided it was time for Baby Jonah's first real hair cut.  I have cut his hair previously, as he had several randoms that were crazy, but had waited on the first big boy haircut.  The back curled a bit, but the front is so straight, thin, and stringy.  Just like my hair.  Poor guy.  So big boy cut it is!
He did very good with the clippers, and sat patiently through the entire cut.

And now he is even more handsome, if that is possible!

Later that afternoon, our visitors arrived and we were stoked!  From then on, our week was JAM PACKED with fun! And lots of cousin love!

Sunday morning the boys had their final basketball games for the summer season.
And yes, they were showered with medals, and trophies, and goodies galore!
I missed out on a shot of Caleb's team, but grabbed a few of Noah's...
And with Eric being a coach, we even got some professional buddy photos and a team magnet as a bonus!

After the games, we headed to Kalama beach park in Kailua where I failed to take photos.  Cameras and phones and sand and water just don't mix.  I'm prone to slack on the ocean photos lately.  Dinner at the Shack Sunday night rounded out our weekend.
Monday it was off to Diamond Head for a hike and a picnic, then Waikiki for more swimming!
Tuesday we laid low while our visitors headed back to the beach.  The boys had their first cavities filled at the dentist that day and were so brave!  The dentist was very impressed, even referring to Caleb as "the perfect patient."  We headed out to Blue Water Grill for dinner...so good, and obviously so fun!
Love this picture below.  She just could not get enough of "the baby!"
We were even treated to a post dinner show and parade!
Wednesday morning Eric and I took Caleb to school for a family orientation.  He is the ginormous kindergartner!  He is going to LOVE school.  On this day, he was always first to get in line and follow the teacher, so obedient to her every command.  Very unlike his behavior when I ask him to do something. ;-)
We later headed to Hanauma Bay for some gorgeous weather and amazing snorkeling.  Caleb and Eric even saw a green sea turtle while snorkeling here that day.
Afterwards, we headed home for some afternoon naps in preparation for our big luau that night!

To be continued.....

Sports Center

Just a few video highlights from Friday night's basketball games.

First up, Caleb, number 20  on the white team.  This is so awesome.  He continually hops, skips and jumps around blissfully.  And clearly, the boy is all left handed.

This next one just cracks me up because all the boys are so stinking cute!  Caleb is on the block and watch as soon as the video starts.  I just barely catch the end of Caleb and his defender playing copy cat. Haha!

Next, you can see what happens when he finally goes to the left side....his first basket!!! Woo-hoo!!!!

Finally, from Caleb's game, some real basketball sense.  Look at this kid work the triangle.  You can't teach this stuff.  A shot fake, I can teach.  That will come.  I think we may have a decent post player on our hands.   :)

Sadly, I didn't catch any of the near 20 points that Noah scored during his game.  It's a bit more difficult when I am tracking Jonah on my own as Dad is coaching.  This Friday, I will get a video of Noah scoring.  Promise.  (I know this because I will have helpers there with me to watch Jonah.  Yay for visitors!)
Nonetheless, here is a glimpse into his game....and some great hustle!

Basketball Camp

This past week, Noah spent his days at the Tom Kuyper Basketball Camp. Naturally, he had a blast playing and making new friends all week. He even skipped eating his lunch one day because he didn't stop playing through their lunch break. On Friday the parents were invited to join the kids during the last hour to watch a Guinness World Record Breaker for dribbling and spinning basketballs. Caleb and I went for the show and it was pretty cool.
Noah was so excited. Look at him in the bottom left cheering the guy on.

Afterwards, they had an awards ceremony for the campers. Each camper received a participation award. Here is Noah getting his from his coaches in the break room.

They gave out awards for the two-ball challenge, 3-on-3, and then for total points. At the beginning of the ceremony, and now again at the end, Coach Kuyper was stressing about how they focused so much this week on being a total basketball player, both on and off the court. Having solid basketball skills and being a good teammate, win or loose. At this point he gave out what he called, "the most important award at camp." The Sportsmanship Award went to one kid in each of the three age levels who best demonstrated these qualities. For the youngest age group, Coach called, "Noah Selter!" Oh my goodness, I was so happy! I was clapping like a fool, trying to hold back my tears, unsuccessfully I might add. Totally a proud mommy moment...and extremely humbling at the same time.

All the while they were handing out awards for best at this and best at that, here is a glimpse into my thoughts....

how cool would it be to have kid that rocked at basketball
i'll be so excited if Noah wins the most points
who am I kidding that would be shocking
well, he is only six. I was pretty terrible at basketball until HS and I had a decent career.
he'll get better
he's def not a bball stud, yet, but I still think he's cool
I'll play it off like it's no big deal for not winning, we'll get icee's a QT on the way home

Now fast forward to introducing the Sportsmanship Award...and again the thoughts...

how awesome would it be to have your kid win this
recognized as being a complete player
haha, funny how when I played I always thought this award was for kids who had no basketball talent
and now this is what i strive for my kid to be, not necessarily a good player, but a decent human being
kids are so cool...Noah is so cool....wait? did they just call Noah's name? why is Noah standing up? I'm clapping, I'm clapping. Don't cry. Don't cry. Where's my camera? Don't care. Act cool. Stop crying. YAY NOAH!

A moment, for me, that definitely ranks towards the top when it comes to being a mom. I love when my own kids teach me life lessons.
