Last night was one of those nights. I should have known from the nonstop talking after the boys were tucked in and lights out. Or maybe from the three trips to the potty by Caleb soon there after. Or perhaps Noah's trip out of bed to get water and tell on his brother for talking too much.
It was going to be one of those nights.
Caleb cried continuously beginning around 1 a.m. The boy gets growing pains in his legs more than any kid I know. Well, more than the one other kid I have to compare him to. :) But I know the feeling. I can remember the pain waking me up in the night, a horrible aching in my knees and shins. Simply getting him to take some Tylenol without spilling it all over his bed is a challenge, not to mention keeping him from crying. Solution = into Mom and Dad's bed.
Then around 3 a.m., Noah started screaming. I jumped out of bed, found him sitting-up, crying, holding his face. In my tired, loopiness I began the barrage of questions and consoling, "Noah, shhhh! What? Mommy's here. What's wrong? Are you hurt? Mommy's here. Stop screaming!" Then I had an epiphany...he was holding HIS NOSE! I turned to run for the bathroom to get a towel, and he must've known because he yelled, "IT"S NOT A NOSE BLEED." Clearly this has happened before with Noah on numerous occasions. Apparently he was having a nightmare. As we were stumbling back int o my bed, together, he was rambling on about how he opened his eyes and his shelf was empty. Pretty terrifying for a six year old.
