Turning 30

No, pigs didn't fly. However, the Rams won on Sunday, so maybe my 30th birthday was spectacular. After a late night Friday and a bit too much wine, my pounding head and I headed to Noah's first soccer game of the year. Recoveries from late nights don't come as easy as they used to. But the weather was perfect. The view was even better, and Noah's team won 5-0! There he is #10...

Breakfast on the go and we headed to the first chess tournament of the season. 4 rounds, Noah went win, draw, loss, win, finishing with an amazing 2.5 points! This placed him in 31st place out of 120 students! I don't remember for sure, but I think this is his first top 50 finish EVER! Here he is with some friends playing "Bug-house."

I'm pretty sure he is the coolest kid ever (to me). He is so chill and relaxed, win or loose. For him, chess (tournaments in particular) is all about making new friends and being independent. He loves to look up his placements for each round on his own and find his spot early. When he finishes, he quickly checks in at our "camp" for the day and runs off to find someone to play with. So fun to see him getting older and more independent. I think every adult in the vicinity knew his name, that it was his mom's birthday, and he has a little brother Caleb who pretends to play chess. :)

Afterwards, we headed home and I wanted to swim! I was hot from sitting outside all day so Noah and I went for a dip. I think the pool is a bit chilly for Caleb and Dad was okay with just the feet in.

After swimming we had cake and presents! Too many candles....and even more smoke!

Wish we would have had a camera at dinner, but as it is, I was focused more on the shopping before dinner. ;) We found a great new spot, not too far away, for some yummy Mexican food. I guess its not too original and not too hard to find around here. But the place was new for us. The best part was the full moon over the McDowell Mountains on the drive home. Picture Perfect....but again, no camera. Dang.

No, I don't feel 30. No, I don't feel a year older. Yes, I have gray hair. And no, I wouldn't trade a day of my life for the world! In my mind, not being married for 8 years, not having 2 kids, not owning 3 different homes, but turning 30. It does make me sound more like an adult. I am no longer acting the part. It's official.
