This last week, we had a different kind of visitor stay with us in Phoenix. His name was Flat Stanley and he came from a classroom back in St. Louis. Before he left he wrote a letter to the students back home. Here are some photos and what he had to say...
Dear Students,
During the past week, I spent time with Cami’s cousins, Noah and Caleb, in Phoenix. I had such a fun time visiting with them and learning about a new city. Phoenix is in the desert. It is located in a valley, called the Salt River Valley, in the state of Arizona. This means that Phoenix is very flat! There are lots of mountains surrounding the city, and even a few in the middle of it. One mountain is called Camelback Mountain, because it is shaped like a camel! Can you see the camel?

I visited one mountain with Noah and Caleb called Pinnacle Peak. We hiked almost 2 miles and I got to see lots of cool things. At the top of the mountain we saw rock climbers repelling down the side. We even saw a hot air balloon in the valley that we were higher than!
There are lots of rocks in Arizona. Many people have front yards with no grass, just rocks! But they do have some other cool plants that I never see in St. Louis. I especially liked the tall, skinny palm trees and the cacti. My favorite cactus is called the Saguaro. Just be careful not to touch it!
Lots of houses also have fruit trees in their yard. Noah and Caleb have orange and grapefruit trees.
My most favorite thing about Phoenix was the sunshine! It always seems to be sunny. The average temperature in January is typically around 67 degrees. They told me that in the summer, the temperatures can reach up to 110 degrees almost every day. Sometimes, it is even too hot to swim. I can’t even imagine!
Thanks Cami, for letting me visit your cousins. I had such a good time! I hope you all enjoyed learning about Phoenix as much as I did.
Sincerely,
Flat Stanley
