To honor those men and women who lost here lives on September 11th, we decided to take a trip down to Tempe Beach Park, where they were hosting a memorial called The Healing Field, all weekend long. At the park they had set up American flags for each and every victim who tragically lost their life that day. The sight was overwhelming. Nearly 3000 American flags, each individually marked with a card representing the victims, identifying them by name, age, and a brief summary, usually given by close friends and or family.
We read about several fire fighters, from volunteers to seasoned veterans, husbands and wives, sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters. Professionals young and old, living their dreams of working in large firms atop the World Trade Center towers. There was the hired computer tech, who was at the tower installing a PC that morning on the 106th floor, and the pregnant mother, who was one week away from maternity leave.
I, of course, forgot to bring my camera. Although, there is no way that the camera could capture the atmosphere. Besides, the rushed feeling of anxiety, hoping to find a bathroom for our two year old, we left sad, somber, overwhelmed, honored, and mostly proud to be Americans.
Check it out...
