5 Things I am Looking Forward to this Early Morning

It's almost 6 a.m. and I am looking for some motivation to start my day.....as I can hear Jonah crying already. Ugh.

1.  2:15  the weekend begins
2.  The boys' play date tonight.
3.  Caleb's birthday tomorrow...which commences the longest birthday countdown in our house!  (It began on August 23.)
4.  The Blue Angels at the Kaneohe MCBH this weekend...and the rest of the air show too.
5.  Dateline and Red Box.

5 Things To Do Today

Today is Statehood day in Hawaii which means NO SCHOOL!

1.  Sleep in. (Not so much for Noah and Caleb.  I slept until 8.  Jonah is the big winner, sleeping until 9:15.)
2.  Shriner's beach with a mom's group....lots of new friends to play with.
3.  Costco...shopping and lunch.
4.  Swim team.  Noah rode his bike today, all on his own to swim team.  He's so big.  He said, "What if it gets stolen?"  I said, "Walk home and say, 'Mom. Dad. I need a new bike.'"
5.  Make cookies for our new neighbors.  Jonah has finally discovered his ability to throw items off of our lanai....and they land in our neighbors backyard.  They just moved in the day before he discovered this talent.  The cookies are my peace offering.

Okay.  Clearly I am getting nostalgic about Caleb starting Kindergarten soon.  He is getting so big.  His baby days are long gone.  But how can you forget that gorgeous hair!

On this final day of him being zero years old, we shall honor him by dedicating our oh so inconsistent Friday 5 list to him.

1. First, a picture from his first day home from the hospital!  An irresistibly cute newborn and his irresistibly cute friend, Lauren.

2.  5 months old.  This picture was taken at a friend's house for a Thanksgiving celebration.

 3. Almost 1 year old....and he already knows to pick out all the marshmallows from the lucky Charms!

4.  So many days spent at the water park....he can't wait till he's big enough to slide!

5. 365 days, but not yet 1 year old. (thanks to the leap year)

He's working on his surprise face for when he opens his gifts tomorrow....that he helped me wrap. :)

Whew! Almost forgot a Friday five list.  I know you would have been devastated!

1.  People and Cultures of the Hawaiian Islands by John F. McDermott ---- so far, I love it.  Not Kidding.  So interesting.
2.  The Help by Kathryn Stockett ---- haven't started it yet
3.  Mafalda by Joaquin Salvador Lavado (along with a Spanish-English dictionary so I can understand the comic strips) ---- takes me a while to get the jokes, but super cute and witty.  Oh, and in Spanish.
4.  Hiking the Hawaiian Islands by Suzanne Swedo ---- great reference.  We'll try a new trail soon.
6.  Fire in the Turtle House by Osha Gray Davidson ---- Perfect for the science nerd, wanna-be marine biologist in me.

5 Things Noah and Caleb did Before 9 a.m.

1.  Watched an episode of Scooby-Doo while eating waffles
2.  Played dress up
3.  Completed their journal entries and other school work with no pressure from Mom
4.  Played bedroom fort, spy game  (where they build a large fort to block Jonah out of my bedroom, then spy on me and I pretend I never see them)
5.  Made a hat club (paper origami hats are needed to join) -Still in progress three hours later :-)

5 People Who are in Need of Positive Energy

Whether you believe in prayer or meditation or a just the power of good, positive thoughts....I have five people who have been on my mind a lot lately, and they could use some positiveness right about now.  I'm not giving names for privacy reasons....all 3 of you who read this blog. ;)

#1 suffered an aneurysm while studying abroad and is currently in the ICU
#2 has an inoperable, benign brain tumor that is growing rapidly and threatening vital parts of the brain stem
#3 fell and sustained some serious injuries including a fractured pelvis and elbow
#4 suffering from serious injuries after being chased by a pit bull
#5 is the immediate family members of #1 - #4.   Can't. Even. Imagine.

1.  There are five people in my family.  And in my sister's too...and coincidentally, that is the name of her blog!
2.  Since we were married in 2002, Eric and I have lived in five different houses.
3.  We have 5 nephews, Andrew, Wil, Tyler, Aidan, and Daniel.  (This isn't counting our step nephews and male first cousins, once removed, whom we love just as much and affectionately refer to as our nephews.  But adding them in this post takes the number well beyond 5.)
4.  I have attended five different Colleges and/or Universities.

5 Ways We have Eaten Chicken Lately

1.  Grilled chicken breasts with rice and broccoli
2.  Homemade chicken nuggets
3.  Chicken stir fry with veggies and orange, ginger glaze over brown rice.

5 Things Jonah Tried to Eat Today

1. A page from a surfing magazine that he tore out.
2. My dirty socks after I worked out.
3. A letter magnet from the fridge.  (A big leap frog one....not the small colorful ones)
4. A piece of homemade putty that Noah made at school yesterday.
5. Two dirty cotton balls I used to remove my toenail polish and carelessly left on the floor.  I did this while Jonah was napping and then showered and forgot to pick them up....that is, until he found them and tried to eat them.

5 Thoughts About March Madness

1. Prior to yesterday, I can count the number of college basketball games I watched this season on one hand.  Even if I was missing a few fingers.
2. When I do watch sports, I get SO involved with and passionate about rooting for one team, that it is simply devastating if that team looses. Which is why I was glad I missed 75% of the Mizzou game this morning because of our hike.
3. Our family started a tradition last year with our brackets.  We each fill out our own and the winner gets to pick something special.  Last year Dad won and he chose to take us to Oregano's....Noah's favorite dinner spot in AZ. This year, there is a lot of red going on already....but the least amount of red is on mine, in case you were wondering.
4. CBS just announced that it will start it's tournament coverage tomorrow at noon eastern time.  That is 6 a.m. local time.  It's safe to say I may miss the first few hours of coverage....or more, if I can talk my kids into another morning hike.
5. The time difference does assure that I will see the glorious "One Shining Moment," without missing a wink of sleep.

5 Photos from the Past Week

1.  It has been raining, raining, raining here all week.  You'd think with all the rain, and thus us staying at home a lot, I'd be a blogging fool this week.  Not so much.  For me rain = lazy. Yesterday, there was even a tornado that hit Oahu right on the windward coast. With all this raining and thunder-storming you'd think we lived on a tropical island.  Geesh.  It's safe to say, I'd suck as a contestant on Survivor.  The rain is freezing and it makes me lazy.  Here are the clouds covering Koko Head earlier this week.

 2.  We do get pockets of sun every now and again.

I can't wait for it to switch back to all sunny and pockets of rain.

 3.  Noah has been a big helper n the kitchen lately.

His new obsession is mixing raw meat with his bare hands.

Perhaps this has led him to his new menu item he ordered and consumed this week.

Noah actually ordered....and ATE an ENTIRE cheeseburger.

This, from the boy who has tasted ground beef once, in the form of cheesy delicious hamburger helper.  And when he did, he worked himself up so much, that he threw up over his entire plate, ruining his dinner, just as the meat touched his lips.

I'm not really sure that one counted as him trying meat.

 4.  Noah's spring break has begun!

This obviously called for some rainbow shave ice.

 5.  Spring break day #1.  A trip to the Waikiki Aquarium.
